Society of Hospital Medicine Announces New Officer Appointments, Welcomes New Member to the Board of Directors

Danielle Scheurer, MD, MSCR, SFHM Assumes Presidency, Welcomes Darlene Tad-y, MD, SFHM to Board
The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) is pleased to announce that Danielle Scheurer, MD, MSCR, SFHM has assumed the presidency of SHM’s Board of Directors, succeeding Christopher Frost, MD, SFHM. In addition, Jerome C. Siy, MD, SFHM was voted president-elect, Rachel Thompson, MD, MPH, SFHM was elected treasurer and Kris Rehm, MD, SFHM was voted secretary. In addition, Darlene Tad-y, MD, SFHM was elected to the Board of Directors for a three-year term.
“In these unprecedented times, SHM’s role in the hospital medicine community – and the healthcare community at large – is essential,” noted Dr. Scheurer. “I consider myself fortunate to play a role in leading SHM to new heights, armed with the knowledge and expertise of the Board, SHM staff and, most importantly, our valued members. Together, I look forward to helping hospitalists provide the highest quality of care and trailblaze new paths forward for the specialty.”
Dr. Scheurer currently serves as Chief Quality Officer and Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she also is a practicing hospitalist. Since becoming involved with SHM in 2003, she has been an influential voice in the society. For eight years, she served as Editor-in-Chief of The Hospitalist, SHM’s monthly newsmagazine, has served on the Board of Directors since 2014 and more recently chaired the society’s Strategic Communications Committee.
New board member Darlene Tad-y, MD, SFHM, is the Vice President of Clinical Affairs at the Colorado Hospital Association and a practicing hospitalist at the University of Colorado Health System. She also serves as the GME Director of Quality and Safety Programs the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, bringing a wealth of expertise spanning clinical practice and graduate medical education to the Board of Directors. She has been a member of SHM since 2008 and is a past chair of SHM’s Physicians-in-Training Committee, in which she remains active.
